INTRO
I’m your “go-to girl” for professional head shots that make a strong first impression. Whether you are a top-level executive, skilled professional in your field, team member, or entrepreneur, I know how to bring out your dynamic personality through creative business portraits. I’m high-energy and fun. I can balance having a good time with getting the job done. I am an efficiency expert so I will guide you through the process and get you in and out in record time without feeling rushed. I understand very few people actually like to have their picture taken (me included) but I have found a way to make it easy. Everyone who leaves the session says, “That was painless.”
Most photographers use this portion of their Web site to tell you how passionate they are about photography. I am not. To me, the camera is just a tool to get me to my real passion…Photoshop! The truth is, the camera is unkind. The manufacturers keep giving us more and more megapixels and that is no good for anyone’s self-esteem. But Photoshop fixes that. I can make you look like you do in your head. It’s not really cheating if every photo you have ever seen in a magazine is retouched, right?
BIO
Well, it all started when I was 4 years old and got the box of 64 Crayolas – with the built-in sharpener. Within minutes, I had my first work of art in a showing. Okay, so it was on my grandmother’s refrigerator, but nonetheless, I was thrilled. As I got older, I became discouraged with my art as I had great ideas in my head, but just didn’t know how to translate them. I tried pencils and paints and even sculpting, but just couldn’t quite make it happen.
By the age of 14, I had found a great outlet for artistic expression…makeup!
That was in the days of blue eyeliner and purple eye shadow, mind you, but Madonna and I looked great, as did my mom, and my sisters, my neighbors, my classmates, and once the cat! I also had a knack for hairstyling and so they lined up at my door before prom and frat parties.
My college UT guidance counselor told me that my B.A. in Speech Communication would prepare me for a career doing “anything.” Well, what if I didn’t want to do anything but play dress up? No problem – I stumbled into a shop in the mall called HEADSHOTS and not only were people playing dress up, but they were getting photographed, too!
Ah, home, sweet home.
Flash forward to 20 years later. I have gone from makeup artist to photographer, to studio manager, to corporate trainer, to VP of Marketing and Operations, to partner, to franchisor (20 locations) to sole owner to former owner (sold 1999 and had a 6 year run as a graphic designer) and now I am back shooting.
You may have seen my work in the pages of austinwoman Magazine. I am also known as the fund-raising photographer, putting my camera to good use for good causes like The American Heart Association, Austin Pets Alive and Wonders and Worries.
Zach Howell
Studio Manager
Yes, nepotism is alive and well at Korey Howell photography. Meet Zach, my stepson, and studio manager. He does everything I need so that I can spend my time behind the camera. He is the schedule keeper, production manager, and quite the Photoshop artist.
