It’s Go (Red) Time!
For the past 5 years, I have had the pleasure of organizing a fund raiser for the American Heart Association‘s Go Red for Women campaign. This cause is near and dear to my heart because my dad died of a heart attack and since heart disease is the number one killer of women, I am doing my best to make sure it doesn’t happen to me!

History of the Go Red for Women Photo Campaign by Korey Howell Photography
First Year
In 2007, I had the idea of doing a photo campaign to raise money for the AHA. My contact at the AHA was thrilled and gave me donated pages from austinwoman Magazine.
I was invited to attend the AHA Executive Breakfast and planned to sell 25 sessions to attendees, supporters of the AHA. It was announced that I would be there and I had a table set up. BUT…the night before, I sent a quick little email to my own client list just to see if anyone might be interested. Lo and behold when I woke up in the morning before the breakfast, my clients responded and all 25 slots had already been sold! Ooops!
So I went to the breakfast a little excited and a little embarrassed because I didn’t have any slots to sell to the attendees at the breakfast. So, we made the quick decision to make room for 40 in the spread and I sold the remaining 15 slots that morning.
Second Year:
Ok, the goal was to go back to 25. I first sent an email to everyone who had participated the year before to give the first shot at it. Sure enough, over half of the people decided to do it again! So much for the 25 person limit. So again, I opened it up to 40 and with one email, we were sold out again.
Third Year:
So, year three and this is when the economy had first taken the hit and the banks were needing bail outs and the car makers were in front of Congress and I just knew I wasn’t going to be able to pull it off a third year. So I sent out a feeler email to the past participants asking them to respond to the following:
- Regardless of the economy, count me in for $300 right away! It’s a great cause and I want to be featured in AWM.
- Yes, I am tightening my budget a bit, but would still participate if I could make a payment plan.
- Uh, good luck with that (avert eyes and hope I don’t call on you!)
Well, my faith in the spirit of charity was restored because once again, it sold out…in fact, I miscounted and we actually did 42!
4th Year
Year four turned out better than expected. We were able to get two pages after all! Thank you to all the many repeat participants.

5TH YEAR – BIGGEST AND BADDEST TO DATE!

Sitting Fee is $500 with a $150 Print Credit
Because there are limited times available, you may want to check the online scheduler first. Also, if you would like to request a price list first, email me.
How it Works
1. This time of year, I can only promise studio shots. If weather permits, we can try outside, but plan on studio shots.
2. Sitting fee is $500 AND includes $150 print credit toward holiday cards, desk and wall prints, digital files and specialty items. $150 will go a pretty long way. For sure all the holiday cards you would need and probably a few smaller prints. This year, everyone is going crazy for “thin wraps.” Wait til you see them!
3. The studio can fit 7 family members comfortably.
4. One outfit per family only. Please wear black or white or gray for the best results.
5. We will do the family shot and other groupings like the couple, the kids, each kid, etc. as time and attention of the kids allows.
6. You will be making your portrait selection during your allotted time so make sure all decision makers are present. GOOD TIP: If possible make arrangements for young kids to leave the studio while you make your order so you can concentrate and they don’t get bored or cranky. Often times families take two cars and mom stays while dad and kids go play.
7. Plan for 1 and a half hour session. Shooting time will be only as long as needed to get a few good shots – perhaps as little as 15 minutes. As soon as the kids lose interest, we will stop. Make sure they are fed and rested and bribe them with something for good behavior!
8. Remember Photoshop does most of the work. So long as we get at least one good shot of each person, I can do my magic to composite them together.
A white wall and a point and shoot digital camera is not a photo studio. Just because a friend CAN take your picture, doesn’t meant they should. If you offer a terrific product or service and have spent time and effort to develop a brand and good will, then take as much care with your image. Not using professional photography on a business Website is like offering a five star meal served on a paper plate.
Your professional image should present you in your best professional light – not on vacation, not with your partner cropped out, not with a drink in your hand, not in a formal dress from a friend’s wedding, not sitting in a restaurant, etc. Show your clients and prospective clients that you know how to dress and behave in a professional way. Show them you take your business seriously and sought out professional photography to demonstrate that.
Sure, you have a great photo that you love, but it was shot circa 1993! Photography styles change – as do hair styles, glasses, clothing, etc. Even if you have a great photo but it is from more than 3 years ago, chances are you are committing this offense. These photos show outdated backgrounds, lighting styles and posing.
Really? Do I even need to explain this one?
How fun was it find this on my Facebook page posted by a satisfied client, The Wellington Group.
Take a Shot With Korey Howell Photography
We had the pleasure of working with Korey Howell Photography for a client’s photo shoot recently, and trust us when we say, this is the go-to company for corporate photos.
From the first conversations (through email and then by phone) to the photo shoot to the follow-up correspondence, Korey was polite, prompt, and professional, three things that make working with her a breeze. Add in her fun personality and her brilliant photography, and this will be one of your favorite photographers.
Korey took time to discuss our photo desires with her (this included doing research on our client), and when it was time to take the photos, she gave great direction about where to look and stand to get the photos we wanted. We love that Korey brought along her laptop to the photo shoot so we could view the photos to see if she was on the right track and pick the best ones for editing. Most of all, we love that she made our client feel comfortable before, during and after the shoot, and that she went above and beyond in service.
Take a look at one of Korey’s great shots:
Sure, the tie is classic, but you can still present a crisp business look with white shirt and dark jacket.
Lighting sets the mood in photography. You can be bright and cheery or shadowy and serious or somewhere in between.
Which fits your company profile?
My photography reputation is spreading far and wide! Well, actually just to Houston and Mississippi, but still! Jan (left) has traveled from Houston before to get her headshots done by me before and with my last $99 sale, she got her sister, Paula, to make the trip from Mississippi. When their momma sees the canvas print, she’s gonna cry!
Wanna make your momma cry? Grab your siblings and come see me.
BTW…see Paula’s awesome necklace? It belongs to me now. I wrestled her to the ground and took it! You can check out more cool must-have jewelry at http://www.stelladot.com/theperfectpiece.
Shout out to Yvette Clay of Living Order Austin. She updated her headshot because she changed her hair.
Check out straight vs. curled.
Have you changed your hair? If so, make an appointment using the online scheduler:
